D23 Announcements!!!!

This is what we have all been waiting for! Major announcements from Disney at the D23 Expo! Here is what we know! Photo credit: Disney Parks Blog

  • There is a new parade coming to Disneyland called Magic Happens. All new floats and music by Todrick Hall. It will be in Disneyland in Spring 2020
  • Disneyland will be getting Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railroad in Toon Town. It will open in 2022.
  • Disneyland Shanghai will get a Zootopia land! There will be a new major attraction at the land but no details were given!
  • The expansion and transformation of Hong Kong’s castle will be taking place. This castle will not be inspired by Disney princess, but by Disney heroines and will be home to a new Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo Boutique. It will be called Castle of Magic Dreams.
  • Frozen themed land coming to Hong Kong Disneyland. The first attraction will be Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleigh and get the park will also be getting the Frozen Ever After ride.
  • Disney Springs will be getting a new Cirque Du Soleil. Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney Animation Studios teamed with Cirque Du Soleil to create the new show. The show is about a girl who’s life is surrounded by Disney and her father sends her on a journey of animation. Not many other details were given. Show will start March 2020.
  • Target and Disney are teaming up to bring more Disney merchandise with in-store Disney Stores! This is starting in October with 25 select stores and will continue with 40 more stores by October 2020. These products are available online as well.
  • New immersive Avengers land – campus style – in Disneyland California Adventure in 2020 and later at Disneyland Paris.
  • First ever Spiderman attraction at Disney parks. Interactive, family friendly adventure. Ride allows guests to ‘sling’ webs just like Spiderman himself.
  • PYM Test Kitchen to grow and shrink food
  • Meet & Greet with Ant Man & The Wasp
  • At Disneyland California Adventure, they will also get an all new adventure that takes guests on a Flynn jet and fly to Wakanda and beyond to save the world against a powerful villain. This will be an all new innovative ride system. This is part of the second phase. First phase will be open in 2020!
  • Epcot is undergoing major transformation. More Disney, more family, more timeless, and more relevant per Bob Chapek.
  • World Showcase, World Discovery, World Nature, World Celebration will be the 4 ‘neighborhoods” of Epcot.
  • At World Celebration in Epcot, Spaceship Earth will remain the park’s grand icon but the journey will be transformed with new scenes reflecting the universal nature of the human experience. A new guide and all new narration will focus on the storytelling that brings people together.
  • Universe Point will give new views and feature new statue of Walt Disney. Gardens, a Wishing Tree that comes to live, a story fountain, and a pavilion that will become the home base for festivals. There will be 3 levels with top level great for viewing night shows
  • World Discovery – Guardians of the Galaxy attraction will be first opening that starts with planetarium before boarding ship to go to space. This coaster will feature first-ever reverse launch into space! The attraction will be called Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind!
  • PLAY! pavilion at World Discovery is opening in time for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World. In this interactive metropolis, guests will discover a city bursting with games, activities, and experiences that connect them with friends, family, and beloved Disney characters like never before.
  • There will be an expansion of the Mission Space area for new restaurant, Space 220, which will be an immersive space-themed dining experience. It will be open starting Winter 2019.
  • World Nature – Land pavilion gets new film Awesome Planet in January 2020. The Journey of Water, inspired by Moana, guests can play with magical water and learn about the cycle of water.
  • World Showcase – China, all new presentation, Wondrous China, will be featured on a 360 degree seamless screen
  • Canada Far and Wide premiering January 2020 with new scenes and story.
  • New film in France, Beauty & The Best Sing-Along debuts January 2020. Remy attraction will be open Summer 2020.
  • A new creperie, also in France, will be table & quick service options in 2020.
  • A Mary Poppins attraction is coming to the United Kingdom! Cherry Tree Lane comes to life for the first time ever in Epcot.
  • A new nighttime show at Epcot called HarmonioUS will be the largest ever spectacular created for a Disney park. It will debut after the limited run of Epcot Forever.
  • Walt Disney Worlds 50th anniversary coming to all 4 parks – food, beverage, merchandise and more
  • Disney Genie coming to help plan trips to Walt Disney World – customized itineries – themed days based on your interests. It will evaluate millions of options to put together a plan for your day and send you real-time tips. It will also make dining and Fastpass reservations for you. This new service will debut in late 2020.
  • Reflection Lodge, classic country lodge reimagined where River Country once sat. Accommodations include A-frame houses, treehouse suites, plus a new table service restaurant inspired by Princess & the Frog. Chapek said it’s one of the most unique resort ever built!
  • Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Hotel coming to Walt Disney World. It will be a 2-day, 2-night experience. Guests board & exit together. It will be all immersive and part of a Star Wars story. Interact with characters and crew and become a part of the action.
  • Disney Cruise Line voted Worlds Best Cruise Line by Travel & Leisure
  • New port of Call for the cruise line – Disney Owned – Lighthouse Point is located in the Bahamas on an island called Eleuthera
  • 5th Disney Cruise line ship, The Disney Wish, will debut 2021 and will set sail January 2022. The stern character will be Rapunzel from Tangled.
