They say every dog has his day, and for one shelter dog in Arizona, his day has come. Monte, a 2-year-old terrier mix, has landed a spot in the upcoming Disney live action remake of “Lady and the Tramp,”and not only will he make an appearance, he’s the lead role.
While we don’t know much about Monte’s backstory, we do know that he was rescued from the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley in Las Cruces, New Mexico by the HALO Animal Rescue in April 2018. HALO, which stands for Helping Animals Live On is an animal rescue located in Phoenix, Arizona. They are a no-kill shelter that partners with other rescue organizations and shelters, which is how they ended up with Monte.
Trainers for the upcoming movie came from Hollywood in hopes of finding rescue dogs to cast in the movie, and Monte stole their hearts. According to shelter staffers, he was super friendly, loved attention, loved people and loved to give kisses, and knew how to sit and walk well on a leash. It was a match made in Hollywood! The trainers adopted Monte and the rest is like a movie script!
In the movie, Monte will be voiced by Justin Theroux , an American actor, director, screenwriter, and film produce. Theroux is a proud rescue dog dad in his own right. Disney also added that all of the rescue dogs featured in the film found their ‘furever’ homes when filming was wrapped.
“Lady and the Tramp” will debut on Disney+, Disney’s new streaming service, on November 12.
