In a recent issue of Allure magazine, Anne Hathaway admitted to facing pressure from Hollywood about her looks. Yet another beautiful celebrity who has faced this scrutiny in the entertainment industry. To make it worse, she was only 16 years old when it happened.
She tells the magazine she was told, “Congratulations, you have the part. I’m not saying you need to lose weight. I’m just saying don’t gain weight. Which of course means you need to lose weight.”
At 36, Hathway is cautiously optimistic that times are changing, and is hopeful that much more change is coming. During her time filming “The Last Thing He Wanted,” an upcoming Netflix original film, the costume designer approached her with a questions she hasn’t heard before. She recalls, “I have Ane Crabtree asking me what my body does on my moon – which I realized meant my period – so she can make adjustments for me. It was just this beautiful thing. I am cautious in my praise of how Hollywood is shifting. There is so much more body inclusivity – which is great! – but the thin thing is definitely still the centralized ‘normal’ expectation.”
So, while it appears thin is still in, we are also hopeful change is coming. What do you think about Hollywood’s standard when it comes to weight? Would you like to see more body types on the big screen?
