Yes, you read that title correctly. No, I’m not talking about the live action movie that is set to start production in 2020. Just announced today, The Wonderful World of Disney and ABC will honor the 30th anniversary of the Disney film with a live musical event showcasing The Little Mermaid.

After making waves as the voice of Moana in Disney’s Moana, Auli’i Cravalho will once again hit the high seas in the live studio production as Ariel, the star of The Little Mermaid. Alongside Cravalho, award winning R & B artist, actor, and producer Queen Latifah is set to play Ursula, and renowned reggae msinger, DJ, actor, and award-winning artist Shaggy will be the voice of Sebastian. Additional cast announcements will be made at a later date.

The musical event is set to air November 5th on ABC and is going to “take viewers on a magical adventure under the sea as live musical performers by a star-studded cast will be interwoven into the broadcast of the original feature film,” according to ABC. The press release also stated that “this is a never-before-seen hybrid format will feature beautifully intricate sets and costumes, with music from the original animated film and the Tony Award-winning Broadway stage version.
While I’m not usually a fan of this format, I’m excited about this one! Are you excited too?
